The Project
Eudin
Many waste transports pass the borders of European countries on a daily base. Waste transporters who are planning to ship waste to, from or through a member country of the European Community have to notify this transport to the competent
authorities. This notification process is stipulated by European regulation (EC shipment Regulation
(EEC) No 259/93).
The current notification process is fully paper based and therefore time
consuming. This applies for both the notifying organizations and competent authorities who are currently both putting a lot of effort in this
process. The current process is fault sensitive and a lot of paperwork has to be done when
notifying.
Against this background Belgium (OVAM), Netherlands (VROM), Germany (UBA, MUNLV and LUA
NRW) and Austria (BMLFUW) founded the EUDIN project (European Data Interchange for Waste
Notifications).
|
With EUDIN these four countries EUDIN strive for the realization of an application that facilitates a digital notification process and for the elaboration of a standardized interface for the exchange of data between both European member states and between member states and notifying
organizations. Transporters will be enabled to notify their transports with the use of Internet and competent authorities will be provided with the opportunity to register the notifications directly in their back-office systems without any manual
intervention.
On the longer term EUDIN will enable direct communication via EDI - electronic data interchange between back office systems of competent authorities and between competent authorities and notifying
organizations.
With these solutions mistakes are avoided, the notification process is accelerated and the need for human capacity is minimized as much as
possible.
